I have worked with Waste Recovery Systems and an affiliate company over the past four years. The affiliate company is Waste Management Control in Eugene, Oregon. WRS and WMC provide recycling services for the dumpsters at our multifamily apartment communities. These companies do not recycle items that are deposited in to recycling bins. They recycle items that have been deposited into dumpsters and would have been buried at the landfill.
WRS provides the following benefits to our apartment communities and our Oregon community at large:
- Helps attain statewide recycling goals by recycling items that would have been buried in the landfill.
- Increases the useful life of local landfills by recycling items from dumpsters.
- Recycles old furniture so that it can be repaired and used again rather than allowing the furniture to take space in our state landfills.
- Maintains the dumpster enclosures on a daily basis so that the trash companies may service the dumpsters without obstructions from furniture or improperly disposed recyclable materials. Clean dumpster enclosures improve neighborhoods by offering a sanitary appearance and by reducing potential rodent infestations due to improper recycling.
- Trash services are maintained at a reasonable level so that apartment residents do not pay for excessive trash removal costs. This helps keep housing affordable for many of our low income families.
My first experience with this enhanced recycling program was at Rainbow Village in Springfield, Oregon. The recyclers were professional in their appearance and conduct. The dumpster enclosures at Rainbow Village were neat and clean even during holiday season of November and December.
I recommend Jim Hoover and Waste Recovery Systems to my colleagues and to our state to improve our affordable housing cost and preserve our environment.
